A Benchtop Clean Bench is a self-contained, portable workstation designed to provide a sterile, particle-free environment for sensitive procedures. Compact enough to sit on a standard laboratory bench, it offers a Class 100 (ISO 5) clean air workspace for various applications.

It operates on a simple principle: air is drawn in through a pre-filter, then forced through a High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. This HEPA filter removes 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 microns and larger. The resulting ultraclean, laminar airflow is directed vertically or horizontally across the work surface, protecting samples from particulate contamination like dust, microbes, and aerosols.

It is crucial to note that a Clean Bench only protects the product inside it. It does not protect the user from the materials being handled. Therefore, it must never be used with hazardous, toxic, or pathogenic materials. For such substances, a Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC) is required.
